Tax Preparation Update
Lawton Oklahoma. The AARP Tax-Aide volunteers who prepare and file taxes at the Lawton Public Library and Center for Creative Living are anticipating reopening tax preparations sites in June. April 15th is traditionally Tax Day for Federal and State returns. This year, returns need to be completed by July 15, 2020 to not have a penalty.
People can call the Main Library to be put on a list to get a call back when details are official. Library Director, Kristin Herr, said “we know people are worried about getting their returns done. That is why we started a list so we could call people with information when the volunteers return. It doesn’t matter if you want to go to the Center for Creative Living or the Library. We will take your name and call you with the details.”
Mr. Bowman, the local Coordinator for AARP Tax-Aid Foundation, is working diligently to reopen the tax preparation sites at the Library and at the Center for Creative Living. Volunteers only completed about half of the returns they normally do because of COVID-19. His plan to reopen is assuming the pandemic has subsided and the related quarantine is lifted.
Along with tax questions, library staff are helping people navigate unemployment and stimulus payment information. Call the library at 580-581-3450 ext. 3 or 4. Even though the library is closed to the public, staff have been working Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, and Saturdays, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.
